Gautam Buddha International Airport initially started as “Bhairahawa BimanGhaat” on March 1, 1967, under the Indian Government Assistance Program of the Government of Nepal. On May 16, 2022, it was inaugurated as “Gautam Buddha International Airport” and thus, “Bhairahawa Field Station” was officially renamed as “Gautam Buddha International Airport Aero-synoptic Station” on the very day. Along with the Meteorological Aerodrome Report (METAR) provided half-hourly, GBIAAS also provides Terminal Aerodrome Forecast (TAF) with the validation period of 24hr as per Annex 3 of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO): “Meteorological Services for International Air Navigation” and “Civil Aviation Requirements for Meteorological Services for International Air Navigation (CAR-3)” of Civil Aviation Association of Nepal (CAAN).
